We recently did a reaction video for The Walking Dead‘s sixth season finale, and the commenters came out in full force expressing their opposition toward the cliffhanger ending. The moments leading up to the final act was intense, but what showrunner Scott G. Gimple and the writers did for the final scene got fans riled up.
Spoilers Ahead
Fans were expecting one of the main characters of the show to die by the hands of Negan and Lucille, his baseball bat wrapped with barbed wire, at the end of ths episode. While I enjoyed Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s portrayal of the charismatic yet brutal leader of the Saviors, what we got was a very lame cliffhanger. Fans got mad because they didn’t find out who died since it was from the victim’s point of view. That meant that fans will find out who kicked the bucket in October when the seventh season premieres in October.
Here are some fan reactions via our video:
“That end was pure bullshit, lost all the impact. As for who dies, i really hope they wont kill Daryl.”
“I was so pissed off, they should’ve shown who was getting hit, now we wont know for so long and hardly even care.”
“Everyone can agree that cliff-hanger was shit.”
“Who cares who died at this point. Speculated all season, refuse to to continue. AMC turned off Walking Dead with this ending. Not cool.”
“fuck the walking dead im done”
“The show writers doesn’t know how to end a season. This was the most lazy, selfish and greedy way to end the season!”
Now here are some reactions from Twitter:

According to Canvs (via Variety), the social media analytics company, the final scene of the show’s sixth season had overwhelmingly negative reactions from fans on Twitter. More than 70% of the reactions had expressed negative feelings like “dislike,” “hate” and “upset.” 15.2% of the reactions mentioned “love,” with “good” getting only “6.4%.”
Well, Gimple has an explanation for that cliffhanger ending. He tells reporters Monday morning, “I ask people to give us the benefit of the doubt that it’s all part of a plan, all part of a story,” he said. “I truly hope that people see [the season 7 premiere] and they feel it justifies the way we’ve decided to tell the story. That is the way it is in our minds. I know what [the season 7 premiere] is and I feel that it delivers on what [the season 6 finale] sets up.”
