The Matrix

It’s been a huge month for The Matrix with the recent announcement of a fourth Matrix film with Lana Wachowski, Keanu Reeves, and Carrie-Anne Moss returning. And at the end of the month, the sci-fi classic, The Matrix, is returning to theaters for its 20th anniversary. Dolby has partnered with AMC to bring the Dolby Cinema experience to the big screen, and we had the chance to check it out.

The Matrix is a visual and audio feast, and Dolby has stepped up to the plate to give audiences a whole new experience with Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision. The standout is definitely the audio department, and the sound effects and music are more impactful. The sequence with Morpheus and Neo fighting in the dojo felt alive as you can hear the hits pounding heavily while Lunatic Calm’s “Leave You Far Behind” plays in the background. And then there’s Neo saving Morpheus with a minigun mounted on a helicopter, and you can hear the bullets whizz by all around you with shells dropping from the sky.

The Matrix in Dolby Vision is no slouch either. With the Wachowskis opting to give the world of the Matrix a green tint and the real world blue, the colors pop out more than ever. There are some scenes that really stand out including the woman in the red dress. Dolby Vision is able to pull off deep blacks, and viewers can see it in Neo’s trenchcoat and dark areas in the Nebuchadnezzar ship. The white is super bright, especially during the weapons loading scene.

Fans of the Matrix are in for a treat, and this is the perfect time to catch the film in theaters if you have never seen it on the big screen. The Matrix in Dolby Cinema offers immersive spatial sound and beautiful imagery, and audiences will feel like they’re going down a rabbit hill and into another gorgeous world.

The Matrix: 20th Anniversary in Dolby Cinema will be at participating AMC theaters from August 30th to September 5th. This is your chance to experience The Matrix as if it’s your first time. You can purchase tickets here.
